Chris SHAW – Born in Wallasey U.K.1961.

In 1983 while working in Hamilton Ontario wandered into a library looked at photobooks and saw IKKO NARRAHARAS photograph of TWO BINS IN MID AIR from his New Mexico series and decided to be a photographer.

1985-89  Wiwral Metro College (btec)
1985-86  West Surrey College of Art (b.a)  

1986        Left Art College went to live in Budapest.

Life as an Artist

1991 London, became homeless and got a job as a night porter in a London hotel   because they had staff accommodation…

1992-2003  Worked in 8 different hotels as a Night Porter.

2001  Won an assistant grant for Night Porter Series, from Arles rencontres judged by ERIK KESSELS.

2003  Won first prize in a fashion photography competition (independent newspaper) Judged by a.macqueen Nick Night with Night Porter Photographs entered as a joke.

2004  Exhibited night porter in galleries in London, Liverpool, Arles, Sydney, Paris.

2005  Life As A Night Porter published by Twin palms.

2007  Starts Weeds of Wallasey series.

2009  Moves to Paris…

2010  Exhibits night porter in perm russia.

2011  Exhibits at Tokyo Photo with IKKO NARRAHARA, as guest of honor for TATE MODERN with Simon Baker.

2012  Publishes Before and After Night Porter with KEHRER.

2013  Art residency at Joshua Tree National Park California. Weeds of Wallasey published by Superlabo Japan.

2014  Exhibition at TATE BRITAIN Chris SHAW and Daido MORRIYAMA. TATE buy Weeds of Wallasey series.

May – Chris Shaw – exhibition – Moscow Museum of Photography.

June – Chris Shaw – Weeds of Wallasey exhibited in Aura Gallery Beijing.

2015  Exhibitions Derby, (evidence) Hong Kong (book Fair) LANDSKRONA (photo festival) honored Paris. Working with Aron Morel (morel books) on Retrospecting Sandy Hill. Working with Ines Bordas (Adad Books) on Horizon Icons.
